RISK ASSESSMENT AND LEGAL

The Veterinary Surgeons Act (1966) Ensures that it is ILLEGAL for any person apart from the owner to treat a animal unless permission or referral has been obtained from the animals veterinary surgeons.

Animal Welfare Act (2006) Equine Welfare is the essential practice that as horse owners and any persons within the industry ensure that the horses well being meet the specification of the animal welfare act  the mainly including the five animal welfare needs which include: 

  • need for a suitable environment 
  • need for a suitable diet 
  • need to be able to exhibit normal behaviour patterns 
  • need to be housed with, or apart, from other animals 
  • need to be protected from pain, suffering, injury and disease. 

Equine massage can not be carried out without veterinary referral. Please find below the paper work for a risk assessment and Veterinary referral these need to be completed and signed before Massage can take place.
